Growing a small business is work - especially if you ARE your business- but it doesn't have to be hard or exhausting.

Is your house on fire?

If you have a business then you have a challenge (problem to solve.) It could be small (I’d like to update my training protocols, or I’d like to upgrade my branding); or you could have a pressing issue like hiring or not making enough money. The challenge is when we think all problems are alike. They aren’t. Some problems are house fires: those things that if we don’t fix it RIGHT now, the whole thing crumbles. House fires include not knowing if you are making money or not; not actually...

The line between fear and trust is full of oxygen

I spent some time on the phone with a client who was just freaking out about some changes she was getting ready to make in her business. She’s been doing business this way for a really long time - and now she’s about to change “everything!” She’s afraid she won’t be able to do it, or handle all the new steps, or her team won’t agree with the changes. I get it! It’s scary. And… We rarely make drastic changes in our lives or business because we just want to upend everything. We make changes...

The Scary Phone

Phone Fear

Hey Reader - There are tasks in business that we know we need to do, but we still avoid them. A real client brought me this fear last week - so I'm not naming names here, but stay with me because it might also be your sticky "thing." For a lot of business owners, calling clients is one of them. (I'm not talking emailing, or texting here - I'm talking about a good old fashioned phone call!) You know you should check in. You know you should ask for feedback. You know you should stay connected....

When One Bad Day Starts to Feel Like the Whole Story

Hey Reader - There are days in business where it feels like everything is piling up at once. You wake up stressed about money, staffing, sales, or whether next month is going to work out. Then one more problem lands on your desk and suddenly it feels like the entire business is falling apart. You get so deep in the weeds that you forget why you started, how far you have come, and what is actually going well. But often, the problem is not really the problem. Sometimes it is just that you have...

The season of spring and optimism

Well, we've officially reached Q2. It's spring. Easter Sunday is here. It's Passover. Bunnies and flowers and images of nature coming back to life are everywhere. We're also very close to 'tax day' in the US. The anxiety of tax liabilities and responsibilities is real for many a small business owner. I've worked with several small business owners this year who are new to entrepreneurship and after their first year in business are scrambling to figure out how to manage their finances...

Power of People (POP 🍾)

Hey Reader - Power of People (POP 🍾) Last month I had the privilege of working in person with a group of clients. Actually in the room together. Crazy, I know! I love in person training. In 2025 it feels a little retro (pre-COVID) but it’s amazing when you get like minded people in a space together with the intention of getting something done. It’s just different to be in a room together and not on zoom or phone. As for this training event, the theme I chose was “connection” and it turned out...

There's a spider on your shoulder

What we don't normally see A friend recently received a nasty bite from a spider. It sent her to the Emergency Room for treatment. Crazy that something so tiny can cause so much grief - but I'm happy to report that's she's on the mend and hopes to get out of it with only a small scar. What it did remind me of was one of my mother's favorite factoids: you are never more than 4 feet from a spider anywhere habitable. It was also a pointed reminder that while I may never be more than 4 feet from...
